This four bedroom apartment melds contemporary design with traditional Japanese design principles of screening and symmetry, a language that is also present in the architecture of the building.

In the living room, a feature wall reminiscent of the Kyoto Imperial Palace, with its highly symmetrical proportions and delicate lines, mirrors the patterned screen facade of the building. The geometries and proportions in the timber shelves are reflected throughout the home: in a partition screen with interlocking lacquered timber slats, in the slabs of solid red travertine that stack to form cubic tables, as well as in a solid silver travertine dining table. Traditional Japanese patterns, tapestry and handpicked antique pieces are interpreted with a contemporary approach, imbuing the apartment’s interiors with a timeless quality.
